Digging Deep
The Power to Keep Going is Within You
Before I begin my post this morning I would like to acknowledge that I am aware that my post yesterday was exceptionally scatter brained and not very optimistic. I was going to apologize for this less than perfect post but than I realized doing so would completely nullify it and that is not what I intend to do. We have all those days when we struggle to see the point and question why we've been dealt a less an imperfect hand in life. Yesterday was one of those days for me and I shared it with all of you. I think sometimes knowing that other people out there aren't perfect and aren't living ideal lives can be just as powerful and helpful as an insightful or optimistic post. We need to know that we are not alone, nobody's life is as fabulous as it seems, and we all have days when we don't feel our best and we wish would just come to a close as quickly as possible. So, although my words yesterday weren't the most cheerful or even clear I hope that maybe it helped some of you in recognizing that we all have our shit to deal with. You are never alone.
On a good note today already seems to be a better day. I awoke feeling far better than I have for a while and my words of wisdom today are simple- you can do it! While every day is full of wonderful possibilities I'd be an idiot and a liar to ignore that every day also brings potential challenges that we must face. Sometimes we are aware of the difficulties awaiting us and sometimes they sneak up on us as unwelcome surprises. How do we get through these taxing situations- both the expected and the unexpected? Well I am going to compare it to a race. It's the last 15 yards of a 2 mile race, the sun is hot and the sweat is bubbling on your neck, you can feel the pulsing of your heart in your chest and in your tired feet, you can see the finish line and it seems so close yet so far, what do you do to finish? You dig deep! You muster up the last bit of strength within you and you push yourself to sprint to the end and you finish! You did it! The same can be said in life when facing a challenging task no matter what it is- a stressful family affair, a difficult meal, an approaching deadline for work or school, packing for a long trip when you're flight is in less than 5 hours- what do you do? You have to dig deep because the power to finish is within you and if you tap into this inner strength you can DO IT! I have two great and relevant quotes for you this morning-
"Life's problems wouldn't be called "hurdles" if there wasn't a way to get over them."
- Author Unknown
Don't worry what your face looks like, just jump! |
This quote speaks to the similar phrase that G-d will never give us anything we cannot handle. This notion is so often said but can be hard to believe. I like the way this quote approaches issues and looks at the particular usage of the word 'hurdle.' It's true, a 'hurdle' implies the ability to get over it. If we approach our challenges with this outlook, refer to them as hurdles rather than difficulties, than perhaps we can instill in ourselves that there is a means of getting over it because of course that is the idea of a 'hurdle.' In a race they are strategically placed as obstacles to jump over. While in life they may not be strategically placed (they actually seem to appear at the worst possible moments) we can still view life's 'hurdles' as obstacles that we are meant to be overcome and we can land on the other side. The next quote speaks more directly to the inner power I have been referring to-
“Look well into thyself; there is a source of strength which will always spring up if thou wilt always look.”
- Marcus Aurelius
This inner strength is always deep within us. The only time it seems to be missing is when we fail to recognize it's presence. We must believe that the power to achieve is always there. It is only when we fail to look for it that we cannot find it. But of course this is the nature of anything we don't look for. You cannot find or recognize the existance of something that you do not seek or give attention to. Continue to turn to your inner strength, acknowledge its existance, and you will never find yourself lacking it. It's this inner strength, this power within us, that provides the momentum to get over the 'hurdles' no matter how high or inconvenient they may be. If we can remember that this strength is constantly within us and utilize it whenever we face a 'hurdle' we will never be defeated. Just keep going and pushing up and over and remember that no matter what you have the power and you can do it!
Dig deep and keep going,
xo
Just a little motivational clip- kids can be so precious and innocent yet simultaneously unbelievably insightful!
