Peace, Love, and All the Above

Morning Inspiration and Thoughts

Quotes About You

I woke up this morning feel a great sense of peace and calm. Since these feelings are cherished I felt it was my duty to share them with the world- or at least those of you reading my blog. I thought about an affirmation but decided that a spectrum of quotes would better suit my endeavor. I am not sure where these feelings came from considering the past few days have been exceptionally volatile for me. Maybe it's because yesterday I had the opportunity to visit my safe place and see friends whose presence have always been a comfort to me. Or perhaps I'm finally fully detoxed from all the food and alcohol ingested during my family vacation...I can't be sure. Either way I am thankful to be at ease if not at peace with myself this morning. I want to focus on our own powers for peace and love and the importance of seeking these elements from within rather than without. The first quote I chose is about inner peace-

"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without."

- Buddha

If this peace is steadfast within us nothing from the exterior world can shake us. To be aware of our own inner peace grants us consistency. We acts as our own compass toward positivity and peace if we can tap into these qualities within ourselves. The next quote speaks about self-love-

"It is not love that should be depicted as blind, but self-love."

- Voltaire

It may be bruised or battered but it's still yours to repair-
So often we hear the phrase "love is blind" and perhaps this is true but why isn't true for ourselves? Why are we unable to love ourselves if we don't look a certain way or we do something that is sub par? This is discrimination! If love is truly blind the love we show toward ourselves should be blind as well. We are all imperfect beings yet we are all capable of loving others despite their imperfections. Voltaire makes a crucial point. If we can disregard others imperfections and instead focus on the good within them it only seems fair that we should be able to do the same for ourselves. I've been told that when I look in the mirror- whether I am body checking or spewing self-hating comments- I should always try to find something I do like and end on a positive note. Usually I say that I like my wrists  because no matter my size they always seems relatively slight to me and I like this aspect of myself. I think it's a good practice but sometimes I get stuck in front of the mirror for quite a while searching for something about myself that I like or can at least tolerate. The last quote I have pick is just a reaffirmation of self and being-

"I took a deep breath and listened to the old bray of my heart. I am. I am. I am."

- Sylvia Plath

I want to expand upon Plath's quote and say not only "I am" but I am enough. Too often I look for outside sources to get me through or motivate me or convince me to stay well. But in the end these external sources always fail me because I need to find the desire and ability within myself. I need to believe that I am enough because I alone am capable of creating my health, happiness, and life. Everything we need to get through life is within ourselves if only we take the time to look deep within ourselves and discover it.

I am enough, you are enough, we are enough,
xo
